Matt Johnson
Senior Pastor
Pastor Matt and Jess recently moved to Boone to begin serving at First Free. They both have roots in central Iowa, and are excited to be back. Matt and Jess met at Valley Church in West Des Moines and were married in 2011. In 2012 they moved to Chicago for Matt to attend Moody Theological Seminary. He graduated in 2015 with a Master of Divinity degree and served in youth and lead pastor roles for ten years in the Chicagoland area. Matt has a passion for preaching the Word and witnessing the Holy Spirit transform lives, and looks forward to seeing how the Lord moves in our community.
In his free time Matt loves to cook, read, and play sports like basketball and Ultimate Frisbee. He is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree focused on preaching calendar planning to create tools for pastors to be more strategic in their kingdom impact from the pulpit. He also loves drinking coffee and making it for anyone who asks.
Matt and Jess have two children, Lucy and Levi. As a family they love reading, cooking, hiking, going to zoos, playing Frisbee, and exploring new playgrounds.
